The
permanent site of UITH Ilorin was commissioned by the
President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in May, 2007 and this
informed the decision of the SEC members of NMA kwara to
acquire parcels of land for her members close to the
permanent site of the Teaching Hospital. This is meant to
ensure that landed properties are bestowed on her members
close to the “”potential center of attraction”” in the
not-too-distant future.
In line
with actualization of her lofty dreams for members, the
association approached a family with ONE HUNDRED AND
TWENTY-SEVEN (127) plots within the periphery of the
Teaching Hospital and this gave birth to the NMA KWARA LAND
ACQUISITION COMMITTEE after a SEC meeting in June 2007. The
terms of reference of the committee were to:
-
Verify the authenticity of the ownership claim by the
family from the Kwara State Ministry of Land and Housing
-
Ascertain
that the land in question does not encroach on the
Teaching Hospital or Kwara State Polytechnic land. Also,
that there is no legal dispute whatsoever directly or
indirectly connected with the land.
-
Negotiate an appropriate price with the family using
all necessary cost effective measures.
-
Engage competent professionals to do Site Plan, Lay out
and register the land with the Kwara State Ministry of
Land and Housing.
The
committee thereafter swung into action and completed the
first three terms of reference within few days and reported
back to SEC.
The
committee then proceeded with the execution of the remaining
terms of reference and the said parcel of land was finally
acquired for the association. Site Plan, lay out and
registration were completed by mid September, 2007. Plots
demarcation and capping were completed by first week of
December and subsequent allocation of plots to members was
concluded by the end of December, 2007. Physical allocations
and on-the-site plot identifications by members are still
on-going.
Unexpectedly, the final 107 plots (after layout) were
over-subscribed for by the members and this lead to scouting
for more plots of land in adjoining locations. Eventually,
the committee was able to obtain another parcel of TWO
HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FIVE ( 255) plots – now termed PHASE II.
The PHAE II
has been extensively worked on in terms of Site Plan, Layout
and registration with the State Ministry of Land and
Housing. In fact, all the necessary things including Plots
demarcation and capping have been completed and registration
process reached advanced stage. Anytime from now allocation
to members will commence.
The
committee is a 4-member committee with Dr A.B. Olokoba
and Dr Z.A. Suleiman as Chairman and Secretary
respectively with Dr J.A. Omotayo, Dr Kamaldeen
Jimoh and Dr ‘Dotun Kadri as members.
The
assignment is not without a huge challenge which with God’s
Grace we were able to overcome by one collective duggedness
and immeasurable inputs from our able NMA Chairman, Dr
A.A.G. Jimoh.
